Standing in front of our big map in the living room, with a note pad and a calculator. And the result is 22’000 km. And that is without all the daytrips, detours etc. Maybe a little scary, I agree, but fortunately we can change the itinerary whenever we like.The most scary part will definitely be the crossing of the Great Sandy Desert/ Gibson Desert. From Port Headland on the West Coast to Alice Springs it’s about 2’200 kilometres through remote areas where self-sufficency is recommended. But I guess when we’ve come that far we’ll be experienced enough for this adventure as well! And we’ve got all the necessary road atlases and maps with detailed information about all these routes. And last but not least: there will be other people on the road, driving the same way as us. You’re never completely alone (longer than a day or two…).

 

Lots of things have to be organized, but then again, we’re not leaving before 22nd of December, so we’ve got plenty of time.

What are we planning? Seven months of travelling in Australia, starting in Sydney. Melbourne, Tasmania, Nullarbor, Perth, west coast, Red Centre, Cape York. And lots of places in between.

Flight tickets out and flat for the first nights in Sydney are booked, contract for our car signed. 

This Toyota Hilux will be our home for seven months.

Lots of other stuff has to be organized here in Oslo, rent out our flat, talk to teachers at Robins school, organize our work etc. Most of that can wait until after summer holidays. Until then we keep on dreaming, reading, figuring out which places we want to see. What a privilege!

This is my very first blog. No idea how things work. Fortunately I’ve got 322 days left before take-off. I guess that should be enough to figure all out!
