Standing in front of our big map in the living room, with a note pad and a calculator. And the result is 22’000 km. And that is without all the daytrips, detours etc. Maybe a little scary, I agree, but fortunately we can change the itinerary whenever we like.
The most scary part will definitely be the crossing of the Great Sandy Desert/ Gibson Desert. From Port Headland on the West Coast to Alice Springs it’s about 2’200 kilometres through remote areas where self-sufficency is recommended. But I guess when we’ve come that far we’ll be experienced enough for this adventure as well! And we’ve got all the necessary road atlases and maps with detailed information about all these routes. And last but not least: there will be other people on the road, driving the same way as us. You’re never completely alone (longer than a day or two…).
